Tuesday 4th November saw our latest influx of novice competing in their first race since joining ARBC – the Queens’ College Ergo Championships. The format is simple – each individual in a team of 8 races 500m. the average time of the crew is worked out and then you get a winner. Oh, there is the fact that as you are doing it, there are 15 other teams from Cambridge University colleges taking part as well in your division, there are 3 divisions per class (Novice 1, Novice 2 etc) and while all this is going on there is pounding music from the DJ, balconies full of hollering supporters and a huge screen with simulated boats on to show how everyone is doing…Into this arena we sent for Novice crews – 2 men’s, 2 women.
