About

Anglia Ruskin Boat Club is the rowing club for Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. Formerly known as CCAT Boat Club, we attract both novice and senior rowers to our squads, producing highly competitive crews at all levels.
The 2008-2009 season saw the boat club undertake its first year as ‘Anglia Ruskin Boat Club’ Previously, CCAT Boat Club stood for Cambridge College of Art and Technology-the university’s former name between the years of 1960 and 1989.
CCAT first put a men’s crew in both Cambridge University Lent and May Bumps in 1988, and has risen quickly to lay towards the top of the second division in both sets of bumps races. The women’s side first appeared in the May Bumps in 1983 and the Lent Bumps in 1984-but have only had a continuous presence since 1987 in both events. Over the years the CCAT name and tiger logo have become well known in regional competitions and regattas throughout England. The Club also participates in national and international races and regattas throughout the year both on and off the River Cam, including Bedford, Peterborough, London and Henley. It is therefore fitting that’s despite the club’s name change to Anglia Ruskin Boat Club, it’s tiger logo will remain as a fitting tribute to the previous success of the club.
Anglia Ruskin Boat Club has enjoyed varying degrees of success since its founding, with particularly higher rates of success in the last few years. More details of wins can be found in the Results Archive. It is our pride and pleasure to celebrate the success of some of our former members who have continued to achieve more success within the rowing world. Many of our ex-captains have gone on to captain and row for other town clubs in and around Cambridge. Some of whom have gone on to medal in such races as Henley Royal Regatta and place amongst the top boats in the country Head of the River and Women’s Head of the River.
The 2010/11 season saw the club employ their first full time coach, Marcus DeGrammont. Marcus, a former successful GB lightweight, has coached several world champion and HRR winning crews. Durng this season, the club left their position in Emmanuel boat house and relocated their lower crews to Cantabrigian Boat Club. Anglia Ruskin Boat Club’s first crews currently train away from Cambridge in a town called Earith. This facility boasts a ten kilometer straight river, wide enough for two eight’s to row side-by-side comfortably, pontoons, and showering/changing facilities.
